We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy, technology, and a passion to deliver products for a growing company. The Accountant II position is degreed professional with a general knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) who assists with the daily accounting functions and month-end close. In this role you will prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. You will direct activities of personnel engaged in filing, recording, compiling, and transmitting financial records.

Reporting into the Sr. Accounting Manager the role requires s self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with accounts payable functions including coding, payments, vendor onboarding, etc.
  • Assist with functions related to monthly close.
  • Assist with the coordination of monthly close activities to successfully meet close deadlines
  • Perform monthly financial statement variance analysis
  • Assist with preparing cash forecasts for management
  • Review and prepare balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries
  • Prepare various ad-hoc reports as needed
  • Assist with wire transfers or ACH payments
  • Assist with special projects as requested

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3+ years of accounting experience
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer and/or electronic device
  • Ability to have face to face conversations co-workers and higher-level manager
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and move around work environment as needed
  • Knowledge/experience with retail/wholesale electricity or natural gas industries preferred
  • Technical competence in US GAAP/FASB Accounting Standards codification,
  • Comply with company policies and procedure
  • Works within clearly defined parameters
  • Resolves routine issues with senior staff or guidance and approval
  • Develop skills through formal training or experience
  • Knowledge/experience with retail/wholesale electricity or natural gas industries preferred
  • Technical competence in US GAAP/FASB Accounting Standards codification, budgeting/forecasting and cost control principles
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a vested interest in team goals and objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
  • Self-motivated with the desire to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
  • Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills.

LOCATION & WORK SCHEDULE

  • Required to be in-person in Houston, TX through a hybrid workplace environment.
