Job Description

Job Description

Are you a battery supply chain expert with a passion for making the world a better place? Do you like leading interdisciplinary teams and engaging with diverse stakeholders? Do you want to join a diverse and highly skilled global team where you will make a lasting impact? If yes, then this is the role for you!

We highly encourage individuals of underrepresented groups to apply!

Your Impact

You will lead the Battery Circular Economy Initiative (BCEI), a cross-functional RMI team aimed at reducing the environmental and human costs of the electric vehicle battery (EVB) supply chain by driving towards maximum traceability, transparency, and circularity.

You’ll be part of RMI’s Carbon-Free Transportation Team (CFT), which identifies and scales transportation system interventions that will catalyze a carbon-free and equitable transportation future. To do this, we leverage cutting-edge thought leadership, convening expertise, deep knowledge of the electric transportation space, and data science in collaboration with businesses, local, state, and national governments, regulators, communities, and NGOs. Regardless of your background or level of experience, you will have the opportunity to help bring about change in the world that you might not find anywhere else in your career.

Major Roles And Responsibilities

  • Lead the BCEI team, which includes transportation, policy, and finance experts, as well as external partners.
  • Establish and sustain a working group of battery supply chain stakeholders to build alignment and confidence in a sustainable, circular battery supply chain.
  • Build the insights and tools to provide market and policy guidance to support a closed-loop system for battery materials, channel investment dollars to close critical infrastructure gaps, and link private sector environmental, social, and governance goals to infrastructure development opportunities.
  • Cement the BCEI brand and portfolio as the key venue and convener in the marketplace.
  • Support business development, identifying new collaborations and projects, and presenting these ideas/engaging with funders as needed.
  • Develop and manage workplans and budgets, ensuring impactful, high-quality project delivery, including for consulting engagements with corporate and government partners.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff, both direct reports and others on the broader CFT team, to support learning, development, and career growth.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to foster a healthy, balanced, inclusive team environment.

Core Skills And Experiences

  • At least 5 years of relevant technical training or experience related to the electric vehicle battery supply chain.
  • At least 3 years (TBC) experience leading project teams with a demonstrated track record of on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in an applicable field such as science, engineering, and/or business with focus on energy and sustainability

Desired Skills And Experiences

  • Strong preference given for at least 5 years of relevant experience in responsible, sustainable battery component production, and/or automaker battery sourcing.
  • Experience designing and delivering facilitated work sessions that include diverse stakeholders who may not be operating from a common understanding or may even have competing priorities.
  • Experience communicating (written, verbal, web-based) complex topics to audiences that range from technical practitioners to executives to policy makers.
  • Ability to lead technical analysis and research team through creative problem solving and careful design.

We encourage anyone who is interested in this role to apply, regardless of whether you feel you meet 100% of the qualifications. The top candidates will bring their own unique perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds from a variety of industries along with many but not necessarily all the skills listed above. We offer professional learning and training opportunities to help you develop the skills you may not have had the opportunity to cultivate yet.
