Basic Function

LyondellBasell is significantly stepping up its sustainability commitments, execution and visibility with ambitious corporate sustainability strategies and targets. As climate manager, you will play a key role in the development and execution of LyondellBasells climate change ambition and strategy. You will lead LyondellBasells engagement in the development of sectoral and other external initiatives that shape the chemical industrys approach to reaching net zero and in delivering low-carbon products to the market. The person will be the subject matter expert representing LyondellBasell in networks such as the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and other such networks including regional trade associations, participating in such external initiatives that relate to our overall climate approach and transition plan.

Further, this role will support complex interdisciplinary projects with a focus on the reduction of GHG emissions and other environmental sustainability topics involving significant stakeholder management across the company. This position is part of the Climate Team within the Global Sustainability department. The role reports to the Program Manager, Climate.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Represent LyondellBasell at sectoral and other external engagement initiatives (SBTi, WBCSD, WEF, Cefic, ACC, etc.) that aim to shape and influence frameworks and sectoral approaches on reaching a state of net zero emissions for the chemical industry.
  • Develop LyondellBasell positions on climate related topics, in particular relating to target setting, GHG accounting, and other topics related to our overall climate approach, in collaboration with SMEs across the organization.
  • Maintain an up-to-date view on scenarios developed by external organizations (e.g. IEA NZE) that model general and sectoral net zero pathways and how they relate to climate target setting methodologies and standards
  • In conjunction with senior business leaders, co-create the development of an engagement strategy with external stakeholders, and in particular nonmarket actors (e.g. policy makers) on climate and sustainability topics.
  • Support the execution of LyondellBasells strategy across scopes 1, 2, and 3, working with internal stakeholders, including our Net Zero Transition Team, business segments, procurement, supply chain, to ensure progress against our interim and long-term targets
  • Provide support to on-going activities related to our climate initiatives (e.g. LCA, risk management).
  • Support advocacy and communication efforts that will help accelerate progress and amplify our efforts to stakeholders.

Min. Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, science, business, sustainability, master’s degree preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience in climate strategy definition, experience with global industry players a plus
  • Experience working with climate models and scenarios (e.g. IEA NZE)
  • Good understanding with carbon accounting and climate target setting methodologies (GHG Protocol, SBTi)
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative but also a team player with a strong work ethic, humility, a can-do attitude and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills together with solid stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English, additional language a plus
