Internship Program Overview (Resume and Cover Letter Required – Read Requirements Below)

Interns will get a chance to test drive a career within the Global Energy and Sustainability space. You’ll have your own scope of work with a dedicated team and mentor buddy who will guide you as you get to apply your knowledge and skills to RMI.

If interested in multiple roles, we recommend applicants to apply for a maximum of only two Workday intern jobs.

Climate Intelligence – Oil & Gas Initiative, Carbon Markets, DLab, Supply Chains

• Our Climate Intelligence Program ensures real-time emissions data is easily accessible and transparent while utilizing satellites, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to improve emissions data. Intern(s) on these teams will have the opportunity to explore research and trends in greenhouse gas accounting, climate technology, artificial intelligence, and much more!

US Program – ACRE

• Our US Program is focused on supporting state-level policymakers, advocates, and researchers with building a sustained subnational climate movement that accelerates action, promotes accountability, and works in partnership with the federal government. Interns working with this program will have the opportunity to work on many different projects with the goal of refreshing approaches to data analysis and manipulation, research, and writing.

Development – Strategic Services

• Our Development Team primarily focuses on RMI’s global philanthropic donor portfolio to propel the clean energy revolution. The intern on this team will have the chance to explore systems and processes, research, reporting, analytics, Tableau and Salesforce.

Climate Aligned Industries – Aviation and Clean Industrial Hubs

• Our Climate Aligned Industries program partners with key sectors on facilitating climate aligned finance agreements, create net-zero roadmaps, and enable governmental support decarbonization. Interns on these teams will contribute key research and data analysis hubs for California and Texas, assist in collating and understanding data related to the environmental justice framework, and much more!

India Program

• Our India Program is focused on putting India on track to avoid 9 gigatons of CO2 emissions cumulatively by 2030. Their analysis, research, and convening work helps provide global best practices and insights to policy design, policy implementation, and support collaboration between the public and private sectors. This intern will support the Battery Storage and long-term planning work in India, contributing to the data analysis and research and technical write-up on grid storage technology, costs, and application to the Indian power grid

Third Derivative – Partnerships & Business Development

• Our Third Derivative Program has a focus on guiding and supporting climate tech start-ups who are bringing new ideas and innovation to market, we accelerate the clean future worldwide. This intern will be supporting the team’s research and diligence on impactful climate-tech startups, helping to do outreach to promising startups from around the world, supporting the preparation of proposals and pitch decks for specific business development opportunities industry, and building a non-dilutive funding tracker.

Carbon Free Electricity – Clean Energy Planning and Utility Transition Finance

• Our Carbon Free Electricity Program supports comprehensive regulatory and business model reform and innovation to help allies work together in developing critical electricity solutions. Intern(s) on these teams will support work on developing the Virtual Power Plant Partnership, an analysis that investigates the health impacts of our coal plant, and IRA implementation accelerators and IRA investor engagement

Carbon Free Transportation – Infrastructure and Freight Mobility

• Our Carbon Free Transportation Program focuses on strategizing to end tailpipe emissions and align the transportation sector with a 1.5 carbon target through partnering with government and policymakers in target geographies. Intern(s) on these teams will Assisting with data analysis / research to contribute to electric infrastructure expansion to support EV adoption within the US and globally and supporting grid infrastructure.

General Qualifications

• You are passionate about global sustainable energy.
• You have completed classes, projects, labs, or experiences that consisted of general, technical, and/or quantitative data or research.
• Some experience working with data and analytic software, strategies, or tools.
• Commitment to environmental justice and racial justice.
• Currently enrolled in college, preferably as a junior or senior. We also consider master level graduate students and recent graduates as well.
• You have the permanent, legal right to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor visas for interns.

Preferred Qualifications For These Teams

• You have good research and writing skills.
• You’re comfortable working with and learning data systems and/or programming languages.
• You have experience and/or interest in some of the work the above teams have projects in like supply chains, carbon markets, technology, investments, electricity, international relations, or energy systems.
• You’re comfortable with communication and excited to collaborate with peers.
• You enjoy responsibility and take pride in your work.
• You have a track record of participating in student organizations, balancing school and work, or other activities.

Compensation

Interns are paid $20.00/hr. and expected to work between 35-40 hours per week.
