I. Job Summary

Provide consulting and advisory support to help WM national account customers achieve their waste reduction, waste diversion, and GHG emissions reductions sustainability goals. Collaborate with internal teams and customers design and facilitate strategy sessions, identification of improvement opportunities, and development of action roadmaps. Assist with the implementation of waste and site assessments and provide reporting on findings. Develop customer and internal team training presentations, marketing collateral, educational tools, and formulate and help implement best practices. Execute programs remotely and at customer sites. Maintain pre-established standards for safety and environmental issues. Up to 50% travel may be required.

II. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Consult with existing, new, and potential customers to identify goals and solutions, and develop implementation strategies. These may include waste diversion and other sustainable initiatives, as well as cost saving opportunities.
  • Matches Waste Management services with prospective and current customer needs by demonstrating knowledge of the customers’ business and competition; effectively communicates pricing and strategies as appropriate.
  • Provide support for national account project proposals and development of consulting proposals.
  • Assist customers in identifying operational process improvements and implement best practices to improve waste reduction and diversion.
  • Acquires in depth industry and company knowledge to prepare complex new business proposals and make service recommendations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of external market trends, current sustainability topics & issues, internal sales strategies and operational capabilities.
  • Proposes integrated waste management solutions that are compliant with appropriate local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Present ideas effectively to both internal teams and customer groups, and deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
  • Design project schedules, maintain multiple projects at the same time, meet deadlines and deliver quality presentations. Analyze data sets, baseline data, and assessment findings to identify improvement opportunities. Prepare final reports and presentations and deliver conclusions to the customer in a manner that fits their needs and in a timely fashion.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of what materials are generally accepted for recycling at Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and as source-segregated streams for commodity materials and organic waste. Also be familiar with waste diversion solutions for materials such as household hazardous waste, universal waste, e-waste, etc.
  • Conduct research as needed to prepare for customer strategy sessions, design strategy session agendas, and assist in facilitating customer sessions.
  • Maintains communications and a close working relationship with key WM Market Area personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with client and government regulations when performing assessments, implementing programs, and managing other on-site functions.
  • Promote culture of safety to perform assigned duties and help ensure the safety of any project participants to comply with safety, environmental, federal, state, and local regulations.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

  • The highest level of supervisory skills that may be required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes:
  • Possible supervision of non-exempt employees and sub-contractors during the audit process.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability, Architectural Design, Community Planning or Business or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of relevant work experience in project/business management. Environmental or services industry experience is required. (in addition to education requirement
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
  • TRUE Advisor and/or LEED Green Associate preferred
  • Working understanding of GHG emissions calculations using the EPA WARM model and familiarity with other types of GHG emissions reporting platforms.
  • Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
  • Experience managing multiple customers and/or projects simultaneously
  • Computer and tech savvy – must be adaptable to new programs and systems
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

  • Normal setting for this job is a home office, WM office or project site. Will be required to walk significantly and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the workday.
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements occasionally.
  • Travel – up to 50% travel may be required.

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
