Title: Remote Risk Assessment Toxicologist
Contract: Renewable Long Term Contract – Possible conversion with a direct hire offer
Location: Remote – Reports to Richmond, VA
Apex Systems is actively seeking a Risk Assessment Toxicologist for a remote long term renewable contract opportunity with one of the world’s largest producers and marketers of tobacco, cigarettes and related products.
SUMMARY OF JOB
The Risk Assessment Toxicologist will use their scientific and technical expertise to conduct and write toxicological risk assessments in support of regulatory submissions and product stewardship activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in a variety of toxicology activities in support of toxicity assessment and regulatory compliance of our products, and effectively communicating scientific findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Help the study lead / study monitor to coordinate preclinical toxicology studies conducted at contract labs; review, analyze, and summarize data (e.g., OECD endpoints, systems toxicity) in vivo studies
- Work closely with other study / project leads and external consultants to support in vitro and in silico studies on data review and analysis
- Stay informed of the latest advancements and regulatory requirements in toxicology; explore and evaluate alternative methods to animal studies, or new approach methodologies (NAMs) for fit-for-purpose application to tobacco and nicotine products
- Critically review and utilize publicly available literatures, databases of chemicals, (e,g, ICE, ECHA), previously run animal studies, data from in vitro experiments (e.g. Tox21 / ToxCast) to predict and assess the health risk of consumer products or pharmaceuticals
REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. (doctoral degree from an accredited university) in related scientific field, such as Toxicology, Biology, or bioinformatics, or closely-related field with 1-2 years of experience, or Master with 3-5 years of working experience. Experience in regulated industry is preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in toxicology principles and emerging technology; hands-on experience with preclinical in vivo toxicity testing is a plus
- Experience with kinetic (e.g., PBPK) modeling and modeling software are highly desirable
- Tangible knowledge in data quality, GLP, and regulatory testing guidelines are a plus
- Ability to initiate and work independently and as part of a team; self-motivated, adaptable to changes
- Ability to seek and learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, and comply with company policies
- Excellent communication (oral and written), attention to details and discipline to publish in time
- Authorization to work in the United States without restriction (H1B sponsorship is possible)
