Steelhead Development

Vestas’s renewable development arm for North America, Steelhead Americas, has a growing development pipeline over 43GW of early stage wind and wind/solar hybrid projects and is looking for a Development Specialist to join our team.

The Steelhead development pipeline consists of wholly owned development assets and co-development partnerships ranging from early-stage projects to build-transfer obligations. The Steelhead Development Specialist position requires internal quantitative and qualitative analysis to support project development related business decisions and growth strategy. By combining a deep interest in energy along with an understanding of markets, policy, and economics the Development Specialist will enable Steelhead success in execution and aid in its rapid growth.

Responsibilities

• Perform project, power marketing, M&A, energy markets, and policy analysis
• Support business development efforts through pitch deck creation, research, data analysis, and partner engagements
• Identify promising locations for future wind and solar projects
• Build financial models to understand overall project finances
• Build and test various offtake structures
• Quantify impact of external market factors such as economic incentives, supply chain price volatility, environmental restrictions, and federal/state/local governmental rules as it may impact company and project financials
• Assist with due diligence of development project acquisitions
• Conduct offtake research in terms of both specific commercial and industrial opportunities and broader market trends
• Maintain flexibility to assist in various aspects of the development process when needed
• Act as a conduit between the development team and subject matter experts
• Challenge the conventional wisdom, test new ideas, remain curious

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or Masters-level education
• Experience working in energy and a basic understanding of energy markets preferred
• A deep passion in furthering the energy transition to renewable sources

Competencies

• Ability to learn quickly with little direction within a quickly growing, small team
• Comfort with math, research, and making predictions amid uncertain conditions
• System skills – Microsoft Office, CRM database, GIS, Alteryx, etc.
• Curiosity, passion, attention to detail, leader, strategic thinker, high degree of flexibly
• Experience in financial and quantitative modeling preferred
• Advanced communication and organizational skills, oral and written, and interpersonal interaction.
• Ability to assimilate technical information and translate that into appropriate business decisions.
