Job Description

The UX/UI Designer is an analytical and creative contributor to the Product Team, leading the full spectrum of UX/UI design activities. They grasp and interpret user needs, apply industry tools, technologies, and best practices to design user experiences and interfaces for Codifi’s web and mobile applications, collaborate with the technical team for implementation, and provide acceptance testing support/leadership.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, normal business hours (Flexible)

Location: National, Remote

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Leads the iterative design process with a recognition that the first design is rarely the final design (i.e., MVP mindset)
  • Designs with consideration of business objectives, and technical, time, and budget constraints; provides UI/UX design estimates
  • Translates product requirements and user research insights into intuitive, user-centered designs for web and/or mobile applications and device screens
  • Leverages internal subject matter experts, identified customers/users, Product Advisory Board input, competitive insights, and knowledge of usability best practices to define UX/UI requirements
  • Facilitates design feedback/review sessions with business leads, developers, and other non-designers
  • Strong communication skills with confidence to explain design approaches or technical details to diverse groups of people
  • Effectively communicates and presents complex design decisions through wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develops wireframes and prototypes around customer needs
  • Finds creative ways to solve UX/UI problems (e.g., usability, findability)
  • Works with front-end developers to implement designs, assisting with trade-off decisions, research, and revisions when needed
  • Maintains look and feel consistency; comfortable designing within the boundaries of a design system and assisting in the development of Global UX/UI patterns
  • Mentors other team members on UI/UX design best practices
  • Participates in process improvements to optimize internal processes to make research, design, and project and product management more efficient
  • Monitors and maintains knowledge of wider industry UI/UX trends and relevant technology trends
  • Participates in user testing, A/B testing, and other forms of research in collaboration with the Product team, as needed
  • Collaborates on the writing of supporting documentation
  • Effectively uses company tools to stay apprised of, and communicate about, customer and project status/updates (Slack, JIRA, Google Suite, etc.)
  • Expected to perform with independence and initiative, with direct support from the Head of Product
  • Expected to collaborate with other company leaders and members of the Product and Technical Teams, including Analysts, Developers, and Quality Assurance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, design, or other relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience with responsive design and UI handoff
  • 5+ years experience designing/developing business concepts, personas, user journeys, storyboards, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes in a UX/UI Designer or similar role
  • Portfolio of at least 3 web projects AND 2 or more native mobile design examples relevant to the Codifi product (emphasis on web and mobile experience)
  • Expert in collaborative design tools/software such as Figma, Balsamiq, Miro, etc.

Preferred Skills/Abilities

  • Prior experience with, or ability and willingness to learn, Agile work patterns
  • Front-end programming languages (HTML, CSS) to create/clean up layouts, interactive features, or execute other design ideas
  • Accurately summarize project details and status and identify questions/risks for escalation/support
  • Communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including customers/users (academics, consultants, field technicians, IT), Codifi team members, and onshore/offshore augmented staff
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively in assessing and solving customer and data challenges, with a focus on usability, accessibility, and exemplar design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to maintain a flowing dynamic with both customers and team members that is respectful, collaborative, and supportive of innovation and delivery
  • Able to work independently with strong organizational and time-management skills
