We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Line Superintendent to oversee the distribution activities of our utility across 59 rural villages in Alaska. The Line Superintendent plays a pivotal role in our electrical distribution system, guaranteeing its reliability, safety, and efficiency. This position demands exceptional leadership abilities, technical proficiency, and a dedication to delivering exceptional service to our members.

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) stands as a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.

As the Line Superintendent at AVEC, each day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact on our operations and communities. The duties of the Line Superintendent will include supervising and leading a team of lineworkers, providing guidance, training and support to ensure high performance and adherence to safety protocols; planning, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments and verifying material and equipment availability; ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and best practices. You will also communicate with cooperative members to trouble shoot and devise solutions for electrical service problems. As the Line Superintendent, safety will be a top priority. You will cultivate a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. You will instruct workers on proper use of all equipment, materials, ensuring the safe handling of cables, and meticulously adhering to all aspects of OSHA regulations. Furthermore, you will make every effort to prevent environmental damage, including oil spills or similar mishaps, and if any such incidents come to your attention, you will promptly initiate containment and cleanup actions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electrical power distribution.
  • Journeyman Power Lineman with the State of Alaska, preferred.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a lineman apprenticeship program.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Rewards

We offer a comprehensive pay and benefit package. Highlights include starting pay expected between $122,170 and $152,180. 401K Plan with Employer Match and Retirement Pension Plan (Defined Benefit, Employer paid pension). Paid leave (PTO) starting at 21 days per year and up to 6 weeks maximum. We also offer 8 paid Holidays plus 2 Floating Holidays and a Birthday Holiday.
