About This Opportunity

We are seeking an Energy Efficiency Technician (Ammonia Refrigeration)

The Energy Efficiency Technician (EET) performs facility tune-ups at industrial sites and supports various refrigeration operator coaching and strategic energy management (SEM) cohorts. The EET works closely with engineering and SEM staff to identify energy saving opportunities and guide the customer toward implementation. The EET provides refrigeration system operation expertise and is knowledgeable of other energy using subsystems. The tune-up work supported by the EET is typically focused on facilities with industrial refrigeration, but the EET is also expected to be knowledgeable in other energy using subsystems including compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boilers.

This position works M-F, day shift and will require approximately 70% domestic travel, primarily in Chicago area and the midwest, or extensively in California.. This estimate is inclusive of day trips; however much of the travel will be multi-day, up to one week at a time. You will be compensated for travel time.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Work with industrial plant managers, engineers, technicians, and electrical and mechanical service providers, to perform energy efficiency tune ups of industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Identify and recommend energy saving opportunities based on observation of condition, maintenance practices, and control strategies of industrial equipment including industrial refrigeration, compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boiler systems.
  • Build trust with customers and guide them toward implementation of recommended energy saving projects.
  • Provide both on-site and remote support to industrial customers and contractors for the installation of industrial energy efficiency projects.
  • Maintain relationship with the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association, representing Cascade Energy with the industry and staying informed on emerging technologies and industrial refrigeration system best practices.
  • Install data logging equipment, including power monitoring equipment, current transducers, and pressure transducers to verify equipment operations. Includes collecting data from distributed control systems, as well as local control systems.
  • Deliver energy efficiency trainings at industrial sites.
  • Support Strategic Energy Management (SEM) cohorts by providing technical support in workshops and performing site visits to identify and implement energy saving opportunities.
  • Facilitate workshops for refrigeration operator cohorts for our Demand Side Management partners.
  • Complete high level Microsoft Excel analysis and report writing for utility energy efficiency programs.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position located in either California, or the Midwest, preferably within an hours drive of Chicago.

This position will involve approximately 70% domestic travel. This estimate is inclusive of day trips; however much of the travel will be multi-day, up to one week at a time. You will be compensated for travel time.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • 5+ years of work experience in industrial environments, including work with low-voltage systems, industrial SCADA systems, and subsystem controls.
  • Experience with electrical (licensed preferred)
  • Highly proficient with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of typical industrial energy-using subsystems including compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, and lighting.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems
  • Proficient in the use and calibration of mechanical and electrical measurement sensors
  • Highly knowledgeable of electrical codes and safety standards
  • Proficient with wiring and electrical hardware up to 480 V
  • Familiarity with data logger troubleshooting and programming.
  • Mastery of the basic principles of energy efficiency

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:

  • Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) or equivalent (strongly preferred)
  • 5+ years experience as a refrigeration operator, refrigerated facility maintenance manager, or refrigeration service technician (strongly preferred)
  • Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist (CRES) or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience with steam and natural gas systems, including tuning burners, testing steam traps, and boiler efficiency testing is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with process heat applications that are served by natural gas is highly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. The salary range for this position in Chicago is $32-$42 per hour, Los Angeles is $33 – $44 per hour. However, final salary offered will vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, and geographical location if different than the above.
