About This Opportunity

We are seeking a Sr Program Engineer with deep experience in industrial energy efficiency and a familiarity with the industrial segment in the Chicagoland area. The chosen candidate will serve as a Technical Lead for the program, working directly with trade allies and industrial customers to oversee energy efficiency assessments, ensure a high quality of technical analysis and mentorship of other technical staff and program stakeholders. The Senior Program Engineer works closely with our utility Demand Side Management (DSM) programs and consideration is given to candidates with a familiarity of these programs. The effective Senior Program Engineer utilizes a specific skill set a combination of analytical ability, communicative personality, and innate desire to be of service.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Lead the overall technical engineering program group for an industrial focused technical DSM program
  • Perform technical review and feedback for trade allies energy analysis and documentation, ensuring a high level of accuracy and quality
  • Mentor junior engineers, but not necessarily serve as personnel manager.
  • Conduct technical trainings for trade allies
  • Providing overall management, direction, and accountability on all program projects
  • Managing individual project budgets and deliverables
  • Exercise a combination of technical and interpersonal skills, paying close attention to customer care-abouts. The ability to listen, motivate, and influence is critical
  • Overseeing and occasionally calculating energy savings for various system or equipment changes using existing calculation tools, original spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted engineering methodologies
  • Documenting equipment performance through data collection from customer sources or via installed data logging equipment
  • Overseeing and occasionally conducting Excel-based energy modeling and optimization of industrial systems (refrigeration, compressed air, fans, pumps, etc.), and composing related project reports based on analyses and observations.
  • Guiding commissioning efforts on newly installed efficiency projects to maximize energy performance
  • Lead technical program innovation efforts

This full-time, exempt position located in the Midwest, with a preference for candidates located in the greater Chicagoland area. The position requires approximately 20% travel, most of which is local to Chicagoland. This could be a half day trip to a site or to a vendor, a full day trip to multiple sites, or an occasional overnight trip to a more distant area. If not local, candidate should be in a nearby state (Ex. MI, IN, KY, TN, Missouri, IA, WI, MN) and be generally available 9AM -4 PM central. Candidate would be expected to travel to the Park Ridge office approx. 9-10x per year, with each trip being 3-5 days.

Qualifications

Applicants for this role are required to have:

  • BS and/or MS in mechanical or chemical engineering or similar field
  • 8+ years of experience with industrial energy efficiency
  • Strong engineering analysis skills using MS Excel
  • Technical expertise with some of the following industrial sub-systems; compressed air, refrigeration, process cooling, pumps and fans, industrial controls, furnaces, boilers, and data-logging of systems

Compensation & Benefits

Our total rewards include competitive pay and excellent benefits. The salary range for this position in Chicago is $110,800 – $135,400/year. However, final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, and geographical location if different than the above.
