Summary Of Position
Reporting to the Head of Production, this role leads the execution of manufacturing activities on a specific shift. The Production Shift Manager ensures that products are made at the required rate and in conformance with FDA CFR part 820 and ISO13485 2016. The jobholder is accountable for all production KPI’s relating to Safety, Quality (& Compliance), Cost, Delivery, Morale and the Environment (SQCDME) for their specific shift. This job will have Production Shift Supervisors as direct reports.
Essential Functions And Duties
- Rigorously evaluates and assures safety of manufacturing processes to protect employees from work related harm (zero-accident mentality)
- Applies a disciplined approach to ensuring conformance to:
- Medical device regulations, standards, and norms (and embeds this mindset in his/her employees at all levels)
- Ensures employees at all workstations are trained (or in training) per the site training matrix
- Reinforces meticulous adherence to procedures and amends procedures where necessary to continuously improve them
- Proposes non-conformances where there is a clear deviation from the approved process
- Ensures correct material segregation, traceability etc.
- Makes inputs to CAPA and NC investigations as required
- Effectively, assures Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP)
- Ensures hazardous materials are properly handled (by trained personnel) and stored
- Provides production goals and results to Production Line Supervisors
- Ensures the production workplace is clean, orderly, organized and befitting of a medical device manufacturing facility.
- Scrupulously ensures fair and consistent application of company policies (eg. attendance management, supplementary hours etc)
- Deals promptly and professionally with cases that fall outside of expectations
- Defines and tracks daily production at an appropriate level (eg. day-by-the-hour, by zone). Escalates issues as necessary
- Measures and reports KPI’s in accordance with Shop Floor Management (SFM) process. Analyzes variances and uses data and trends as a source of improvement.
- Engages and empowers team members. Defines goals, measures attainment, evaluates performance, and provides feedback and coaching of direct reports.
- Manages unplanned events on the production line in accordance with agreed reaction plans to maintain line balance and flow
- Communicates results, changes, key decisions and any other business relevant information with appropriate judgement and frequency to drive understanding and engagement at all levels within his/her team
- Works with cross functional partners to ensure production has the necessary infrastructure and support services to meet customer service, quality, and cost objectives
- Supports the implementation of new technology, new products, and other innovations
- Deputizes for the Director of Production on request

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 7+ years’ experience in a production environment
- 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing as a supervisor
Preferred Qualifications
- Collaborative and Critical solution driven thinker
- Trained and technically competent in entire section assigned
- Training development and execution
- Multiple products, lines, and/ or shifts experience

Physical Attributes
- Observe and hear warning signs and signals within all areas of the company
- Repetitive hand movements including using scissors for several hours at a time
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye and ear protection
- Use of toe protection
- Use of a hairnet and/or beard net as required
- Use of synthetic gloves for hygiene reasons or take other appropriate measures to preserve the cleanliness of the product
- Stand, walk and/or sit up to 10 hours a day with periodic breaks allowed (Standing can be up to 10 hours, Walking can be up to 10 hours, and sitting can be up to 10 hours)
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment
- The employee is expected to operate machinery with moving parts
- The employee may occasionally be exposed to dust
- Based on station assignment, the employee may be exposed to water, heat, cured resins, soap and disinfectants
- The noise level in the work environment is consistently moderate
- Will work in a fast-paced environment
