Job Description

The Long Ridge facility is a single-shaft combined-cycle gas turbine power plant consisting of a GE 7HA.02 gas turbine, one of the biggest and most efficient heavy-duty gas turbine in the world, along with a steam turbine, a hydrogen-cooled generator, and one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Operating at 60Hz, the gas turbine has a rated combined-cycle output of 485MW.

General Summary

The Water Treatment Technician will operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment associated with the Long Ridge Water Treatment System. The Water Treatment Technician will work with the Lead O&M Technicians and O&M Technicians on monitoring the chemistry program and making corrective adjustments as necessary. This person will develop and execute specific procedures and programs as directed to ensure the system meets the water requirements of the power generating facility.

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for the safe and dependable operating condition of all equipment in the water treatment system
  • Work with the EHS Manager and O&M Manager to ensure that plant operations comply with all regulatory limits
  • Perform Water Chemistry Analysis on a routine basis and make necessary changes to make sure water quality standards are maintained as required by the facility OEMs
  • Maintain assigned logs for WT equipment
  • Report any abnormal or irregular conditions to the Lead O&M Technician that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures as directed by the Lead O&M Technician and within the scope of operating instructions
  • Operate ROs, gravity sand filters, clarifiers, thickener, filter press, multi-media filters and EDI to keep up with the water demand of the power block
  • Qualify as a power block auxiliary operator within one year after hire
  • Assist maintenance personnel during maintenance periods and casualty events
  • Monitor plant water chemistry program and environmental effluents and make necessary adjustments to increase efficiencies.
  • Monitor and sample water to ensure compliance with the facilities water discharge permit
  • Set-up, troubleshoot and repair of liquid pumps, valves, air pumps, analyzers and all other water treatment system equipment
  • Perform lab testing of water utilizing various equipment
  • Assist in training Operations on Water Treatment procedures and system operation
  • Complete other tasks as required by the O&M Manager or Plant Manager

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position has a 12-hour Dupont shiftwork schedule, which includes weekends, nights, and holidays. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. “On call” status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will range from Pay Rate $29.33 to $41.10 per hour.

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment
  • Associates degree in engineering, applied sciences or equivalent desired
  • Experience in water treatment operations or similar is desired
  • Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations and chemical handling requirements
  • Knowledge of water purification systems such as clarifiers, reverse osmosis and ion exchangers
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of generation and boiler operations, closed system steam generation
  • Experience with piping, instrument schematics and process controls
  • Knowledge of and experience with CMMS/ Asset management programs
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of industrial safety and hazardous waste is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of combined cycle power plants is highly desirable
