Position Specific Description

This fast-paced role spearheads the critical process of managing and supporting the creation, maintenance, and retention of records from oil and gas operations and production. Prepares and/or reviews land contracts including easements, releases, and partial releases of easements, deeds, leases, and miscellaneous contracts subject to Legal review.

General Description

Review Oil & Gas Leases and contracts and enter data into the Land system. Responsible for knowledge of lease provisions, legal descriptions, mineral interest, lease obligations, and payments. This role requires the ability to independently analyze documents and data as well as provide work oversight to other departments. Interacts with members of leadership; legal; accounting; and Division Order but is primarily responsible for directing and supporting the Lease records functions. The role assures accurate analysis and interpretation of all documents relating to producing properties including advising appropriate departments of terms and provisions. The position is responsible for assuring and maintaining setup, payment, and reporting on leases, contracts, and agreements in the various Land Management Systems (i.e., Quorum, BA Database, Excalibur, and CRM) in conformance with Company policies, governmental rules, and regulations, and proper management of Company assets.

Primary Job Functions

Maintain their knowledge of land lease agreements updated to ensure that the terms and conditions comply with current standards and practices. Establish, prepare, review, process, and maintain payments associated with lease agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Lease Analyst role: 3+ years
  • Provide oversight for the analysis of and interpretation of lease provisions, deeds, rights of way, and other agreements.
  • Establish and monitor compliance with Land Administration policies and procedures.
  • Ability to function independently and is self-motivated.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to meet monthly deadlines to process expiration and obligation calendars as well as any tasks assigned through the Land workflow.
  • Maintains records in the lease maintenance system to reflect subsequent changes and accurate name and address data for lesser, payees, and partners.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with management, Accounts Payable, and the land team.
  • Strong people skills, enthusiastic, organized, pleasant, and team player.
  • Broad knowledge of the oil industry and a working knowledge of Lease and Division Orders.

  • Negotiates the purchase of oil and gas leases, or assignments of oil and gas leases
  • Researches and reports the company’s ownership position, competitor activity, potential legal issues, or other matters for the purpose of decision making and strategic planning
  • Coordinates and communicates with representatives from internal departments
  • Ensures the appropriate steps are taken to meet the company drilling goals and deadlines
  • Compiles and updates land maps that display pertinent land information pertaining to prospects within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Updates management team on current land positions
  • Directs and interacts with field lease brokers
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
