A day in the life

The Director of Energy Policy and Government Affairs at Prologis is responsible for building and executing Prologis’ energy policy portfolio. This person will report to the Head of Government Affairs and work closely with our Chief Energy and Sustainability Officer and Global Head of Energy, Utilities, and Storage. The Director of Energy Policy and Government Affairs will be focused on the development and advancement of a legislative and regulatory policy framework that advances our energy storage, solar, and sustainability solutions offerings. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in energy policy for the commercial sector with experience in the real estate and construction industry providing additional value.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Lead the development of energy legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy and implementation on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis.
  • Represent and advocate on behalf of Prologis in front of regulatory agencies, notably the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the California Energy Commission (CEC), The California Independent Service Operator (CAISO), Texas Public Utilities Commission (TPUC), and the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
  • Provide policy, political, and strategic advice on corporate matters to the company’s various functional units, among widespread FERC and NERC rules, ISO regulations, and state policies.
  • Monitor potential changes to the energy market rules and prepare and present to the company the market impacts of proposed or enacted policy changes.
  • Manage contracted regulatory attorneys or government affairs consultants, as needed.
  • Create clear and measurable outcomes that are connected to core business outcomes and communicate regularly with senior leadership.
  • Develop strong internal relationships with our business leaders to understand their needs and support them effectively.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business strategy and financial metrics that drive outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and state officials, agencies, and stakeholders to foster positive understanding of Prologis’ business and objectives.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to craft policy and public affairs agendas, and develop operational plans to execute strategy.
  • Directly manage regional government affairs consultants by providing clear guidance, oversight, and expectations.
  • Lead the creation of marketing, communications, and external messaging documents in collaboration with internal departments.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to market teams across the United States in engaging with local and state officials, effective community engagement, and positioning of Prologis to successfully advance business objectives.

Building blocks for success

Required

  • 7+ years of experience working in and leading government and community affairs strategy for energy businesses.
  • Strong understanding of distributed energy resource policy with experience directly advocating for energy businesses.
  • Deep experience in regulatory affairs for the energy sector.
  • Ability to move with speed and respond quickly to changing needs across a diverse geographic territory.
  • Expert communicator that can convey complex technical policy issues in a plain and simple way.
  • Deep network of relationships with regulators and critical stakeholder agencies in the energy sector for our target markets.
  • Strong network of partner trade associations relationships
  • Strong collaborative approach to work and internal stakeholder engagement.
  • You must have excellent organizational skills and be a strong written and verbal communicator, with great attention to detail.
  • You will need to be able to work independently in exhibiting great judgement in a constantly changing and sometimes ambiguous environment.

Hiring Salary Range of $166,000-$200,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI) to be determined by the candidate’s locations, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
