Summary

Typical working hours for this Part-Time Building Attendant will be Mon-Weds. from 6:00am 2:30pm. Hours can fluctuate depending upon business needs but will likely not exceed 24 working hours within a given week.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

The Building Attendant will primarily be responsible for picking up mail from the post office in the company issued box truck, sorting mail, running payment processing equipment, and reviewing/ validating payments processed. Additional potential duties of the UWUA Local 601 Building Attendant nomenclature include:

  • Sweep, mop, wax floors; clean rugs.
  • Clean windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, equipment, trim, displays, washrooms, etc.
  • Clean grounds, sidewalk; cut grass; remove snow.
  • Obtain, as necessary, and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Dispose of rubbish and wastepaper.
  • Operate building and office equipment, as required, raise and lower flags.
  • Replace lighting, as necessary; perform minor maintenance work, and report hazardous, unusual, or other conditions requiring maintenance.
  • Move and relocate furniture, displays, decorations, and equipment, and assist with trimming windows and setting up floor displays.
  • Assist in receiving or delivering materials; etc.
  • Perform duties in connection with opening and closing office, as directed.
  • Operate motor vehicles attendant to routine duties, as directed, including performing such minor servicing operations as gassing cars, putting on and removing chains, changing tires, cleaning cars.
  • Perform messenger services, and routine clerical work, as directed.
  • Assist employees of a higher classification, under close supervision, as assigned.
  • Perform other similar or less skilled related District Office/Center work, as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to understand and apply simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner.
  • Willingness and ability to operate equipment with proper regard for safety.
  • Possess some mechanical ability and ability to use ordinary hand tools and to operate equipment necessary to performance of work.
  • Willingness and ability to work outside of normal office hours.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
