Job Summary

We are looking for an entry level Chemical Engineer to help us develop and scale up our photocatalyst and reactor technologies. As integral part of our laboratory team, you will support Syzygy Plasmonics in reaching our objectives to reduce both cost and carbon emissions for major commodity chemicals, including hydrogen and fertilizers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build laboratory experimental setup for light-driven catalytic experiments and assisting in setting up of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Design and conduct photocatalytic experiments at the lab and bench-scale under direction of Lead Scientist/ Engineer and applying statistic tools for data analysis.
  • Conduct routine validation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation and troubleshooting.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and assist in developing and preparing new SOPs and documentation.
  • Manage laboratory gas cylinders and gas distribution system.
  • Assist in general upkeep and housekeeping of the laboratory.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 2+ years of experience working with chemicals in a laboratory.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of chemical engineering processes
  • Demonstrated record of working safely with chemicals and flammable gases, and safely operating laboratory equipment at elevated temperatures and pressures
  • Conscientious and detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and oral communication skills.
  • Adaptability and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Polite persistence and collaboration skills to ensure on-time, high quality results.
  • Proficiency in English
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Helpful Background

  • Fundamental knowledge in Chemistry and Material characterizations, including experience with one or more of the following: GC, MS, XRD, FTIR, UV/Vis spectroscopy, nanomaterials synthesis.
  • Experience as laboratory safety champion or Chemical Hygiene Officer
  • Ability to set up Labview and Python programs.
  • Experience with Visio or CAD
