Chemours has General Mechanic positions available within our growing Maintenance team! This position will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor at our Belle, West Virginia location.
The employee must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift including weekends and overtime, ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs, climb ladders, wear industrial safety equipment; hard hat, gloves (both leather and chemical), hearing protection, FR clothing, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, goggles, respirators, chemical suit, lift up to 50 lbs., stand on his/her feet for extended periods of time and be physically flexible including bending, rotating, kneeling.
Repairs and maintains machinery using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring and testing instruments. Engages in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining a variety of
machines and equipment. Includes pipefitting, millwright, rigging and boilermaker skills. Serves on the site Emergency Response Team.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Locks, tag, clears and tries various equipment and systems and performs first breaks in order to ensure equipment is safe to work on.
  • Safely maintain all plant equipment, such as valves, pumps, agitators, fans, conveyors, piping, insulation, etc. per oral and written instructions.
  • Assist in the implementation and improvement of effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, performing scheduled maintenance on facilities and production equipment as required.
  • Interpret single line diagrams, piping schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Troubleshoot and dismantle defective machines/equipment and installs new or repaired equipment or parts.
  • Safely perform work outdoors during all types of weather conditions.
  • Model appropriate behavior for: Safety Health Environment, Process Safety Management and Ethics and Core Values.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Must have demonstrated human relations ability to show teamwork and resolving problems together; ability to develop effective working relationships with outside vendors, contractors and customers as well as internal personnel.
  • Responsible for sharing job related information to trainees, other mechanics, to maintain and repair mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Other general maintenance work as needed
  • Audit work for completeness and quality.
  • Enter information in SAP to manage and complete Maintenance Work Orders
  • Communicate closely with Maintenance Supervisor, Production Supervisor, and Maintenance Specialist
  • Work closely with Technical Engineers and Area Supervisor on Tasks and Projects
  • Participate in Mechanical Reliability Team & Improvement Efforts
  • Communicate status of equipment repairs / equipment issues to team (daily)
  • Manage completion of Pre-Startup reviews maintenance punch list items
  • Act as an emergency responder on the site Emergency Response Team
The following is required for this role:
  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • 1-year minimum experience in the field of Industrial Mechanical Maintenance
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently without accommodation
  • Must have excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, reach overhead, climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as a Level A suit, full face respirator (no facial hair), SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), safety glasses, steel toes, Tyvek, hearing protection and gloves
  • Must have previous experience with manufacturing equipment, such as, pumps, piping, valves, filters, conveyors, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience working with cranes & utilizing rigging equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, discipline, and high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and the following computer applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Applicant must successfully complete a validated aptitude test used in our hiring process and a skills assessment during the interview process.
  • Must be willing and able to work a 12 hr rotating shift including weekends and overtime required to meet production needs within existing policies.
  • Must be willing to work both with an integrated team as well as independently
The following is preferred for this role:
  • 3-5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge and experience reading P&IDs
  • SAP-PM experience
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills
