Job Summary:

This Radiochemist position works for the Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility (RPF) within the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The RPF is housed in the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) building. The RPF’s mission is to advance radiopharmaceutical translational research. Current staff includes a Nuclear Medicine Physician Director, Radiopharmacist Manager, a second Radiochemist, and a Nuclear Pharmacy Specialist.

The Radiochemist will participate in cGMP PET manufacturing of FDA approved kits, aNDA, and IND radiopharmaceuticals for successful production of radiopharmaceuticals used in cancer imaging, cardiac perfusion, and other disease oriented imaging for UW Health patients. The successful candidate will also collaborate with researchers to help develop pre- clinical and phase-1 radiopharmaceuticals for first in human and animal studies with the goal of advancing research agents to commercial production. This position will be expected to design and conduct experiments with radioactive substances; collect and analyze data from instruments such as gas chromatogaphs (GC), HPLC, Thin Layer Chromatography (radio-TLC), sterility testing, and endotoxin testing to ensure developed release criteria; set up, calibrate, and operate instruments during the preparation and quality control testing of the radiopharmaceutical prior to becoming approved for administration to human and/or animal patients. Some of the software and instruments the candidate will use include, but are not limited to, BioTrax, Agilent ChemStation, and Chromeleon.

Education:

Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Experience in PET radiotracer.

Preferred:

  • Experience with radiopharmaceuticals, radiopharmaceutical development, and radiochemistry.
  • A strong background in radiochemistry is preferred, but experience in organic or inorganic synthesis may also be acceptable.
  • Willingness to safely work with radioactive materials.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% – 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for Process Dev & Mfg Scientist I is $65,000; the starting salary for Process Dev & Mfg Scientist II is $70,000; the starting salary for Process Dev & Mfg Scientist III is $85,000. Starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
