About Walmart Energy Transformation

The Walmart Energy Transformation strategy aims to decarbonize our operations while capturing emerging new value streams that help catalyze societal decarbonization.

The team now reports directly to the COO of Walmart US and the Chief Sustainability Officer.

This Organization Is Responsible For

Ensuring energy security, reliability, and affordability through purchasing energy and optimizing for the lowest cost in regulated and wholesale markets. Leveraging our unique assets and positioning to build value-creating businesses. And maintaining our zero emissions leadership. Walmart has recently committed to bringing 10 GW of clean energy online by 2030, in addition to our publicly stated goals of 50% clean powered by 2025, 100% clean powered by 2035, and zero emissions in our operations by 2040. In addition to new build clean energy assets, we aim to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions across our facilities, and transition our fleet to zero emissions vehicles. We also aim to build a public EV charging network to provide energy choice and affordability for our customers and local communities.

We are a team of seasoned energy veterans dedicated to realizing Walmart’s regenerative commitments and leveraging Walmart’s platform to support the decarbonization of our customers, associates, communities and suppliers. Because energy touches everything, we work across Walmart, particularly real estate, facilities, supply chain, network design, transportation and customer experience. We have come from across Walmart, utilities, developers, banking, clean energy consulting and environmental NGOs. We are innovators and change agents determined to make an impact. To develop and execute on long-term global strategy to accelerate Walmart’s progress toward its 100% renewable energy goals in a manner that delivers value to shareholders, customers, and/or associates.

To originate, execute, and manage long-term, strategic partnerships with renewable energy developers to secure programmatic access to renewable energy globally across Walmart’s geographic footprint, including execution of long-term power purchase agreements; leverage Walmart’s wholesale purchasing capabilities to develop and drive execution of value-optimized strategy to achieve decarbonization targets within desired timeframe.

To originate and execute on value-creating initiatives to facilitate and accelerate decarbonization ambitions of Walmart’s supplier network.

To lead execution of strategy for capital deployment into offsite renewable energy projects, targeted at opportunities that deliver economic value, enable emissions reductions, and deepen customer and/or associate relationships through the expansion of access to low-cost, reliable clean energy.

To build, develop, and retain high-performing team of professionals to originate, structure, and execute on opportunities and manage Walmart’s existing portfolio of investments.

To build and maintain strong relationships with the renewable energy and decarbonization project developer community to ensure access to high quality investment opportunities.

To lead internal and external stakeholder engagement with respect to Walmart’s sustainable and renewable energy initiatives, including identifying, reviewing, intervening, and participate in relevant state and federal policy and regulatory proceedings; collaborate on the development, maintenance, and ongoing changes of the tracking system and framework for delivering progress toward decarbonization objectives; travel to meet with regulatory agencies as needed; and monitor and manage energy-related sustainability affairs in international arenas.

To oversee the regulatory and legislation influencing process by identifying, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting legislation, regulations and policy issues related to renewable and sustainable energy and greenhouse gas emissions; draft initial comments, rebuttals, and briefs; secure and direct outside legal counsel and technical consultants to assist in preparing and presenting Walmart’s position; communicate congressional, administrative, and regulatory testimony as necessary; propose solutions to management; and ensure testimony and briefs are prepared and submitted on time after securing approvals.

To drive the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; develop and communicate business plans and priorities; remove barriers and obstacles that impact performance; provide resources; identify performance standards; measure progress and adjust performance accordingly; develop contingency plans; and demonstrate adaptability and support continuous learning.

J Ob Responsibilities

Leading Walmart’s power origination strategy and overseeing all conventional and renewable power procurement and origination efforts.

Leveraging experience in power trading and origination, and renewable energy procurement to lead a comprehensive risk management and optimization strategy to manage a multi-GW portfolio of offsite renewable purchases and physical energy needs for thousands of stores.

Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; promoting a customer environment; and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.

Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.

3+ years of supervisory experience in the renewable energy industry

7+ years of experience in the energy industry leading teams focused on origination, development, and/or capital formation for renewable energy projects., Demonstratable track record of commercializing or executing investments in renewable energy projects and/or securing partnerships in support of such activities., Excellent written and verbal communication skills., In-depth understanding of both competitive and regulated energy markets., Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field., Strong executive presence and proven experience interfacing externally with the energy industry and internally at senior executive levels.
